Protection of Personal Information Act workshop

POPI was signed by the President on 19 November 2013 and gazetted on 26 November 2013. It could be detrimental to your organization if you do not comply. You need to train all your staff on this important legislation.  Non-compliance can lead to criminal and civil fines and complaints to the regulator. On 17 May 2016, former IEC chairperson, Pansy Tlakula, was recommended as chairperson of the newly-formed Information Regulator.  The National Assembly voted in favour of her appointment on the 7th of September. It is thought that the Information Regulator will be appointed before the end of 2016.  Regulations and dates of actual implementation will then be published and there will be a year’s grace period after implementation to comply with the Act.
